the Health Benefits of Owning a Pet

"Me and D" 5x7" watercolor
This past month, I was part of Unbound Visual Art's group show "Healthful". A collection of artists who created in art what health meant to them. Being the animal artist I am, I wanted to focus on the health benefits of owning a pet.
If you go to any of the popular medical websites, you can find a lot of information about these benefits.
Some of the top ones are:
Allergy fighters
a growing number of studies have suggested that kids growing up in a home with "furred animals" -- whether it's a pet cat or dog, or on a farm and exposed to large animals -- will have less risk of allergies and asthma
Stress Relievers
In one study, stockbrokers with high blood pressure who adopted a cat or dog had lower blood pressure readings in stressful situations than did people without pets.
Heart Friendly
Heart attack patients who have pets survive longer than those without, according to several studies.
I've been around animals as much as I've been painting. I think those who walk throughout this life with out art or without pets is really missing out on something. This is the reason why I paint animals. For me it's bringing two things that I absolutely can not live without. Maybe that makes me the healthiest person around!
